Yes! Jiu Jitsu is beginner-friendly and designed for people of all fitness levels. Many schools, including ours, offer introductory classes that cover the basics step by step. You don’t need prior martial arts experience to get started. We even offer 1-on-1 private training sessions scheduled at your leisure.

Do I need to be in shape before starting Jiu Jitsu?
No—Jiu Jitsu will help you get in shape. Classes are structured so beginners can start at their own pace while gradually improving strength, stamina, and mobility. Over time, training becomes an effective way to lose weight and improve overall health.

What should I wear to my first Jiu Jitsu class?
For your first Jiu Jitsu class, wear tight fitting but comfortable athletic clothing such as a beach t-shirt and shorts or leggings without zippers. We provide a loaner gi (uniform) when required. Eventually, students purchase their own gi and/or rash guard for training.

Is Jiu Jitsu safe?
Yes, it is generally safe when practiced under proper instruction. Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Classes in Lake Forest, CA emphasize controlled training, tapping before any injury, and respect for training partners. Like any sport, minor bumps and soreness can happen, but serious injuries are rare.
